“DAY 16: Different World”

Hello readers! Let’s not beat around the bush today; we’ll get straight to Day 16 of the BlogFlash2012 Challenge.

Day 1 of the Challenge is here.

Different World

Professor Elkins grew entirely dissatisfied with the world of today, and so he sought to find a new one. His tinkerings resulted in a marvellous machine, capable of moving sideways through the universe and thrusting its user into parallel worlds.

Delighted, Elkins went in search of a new home.

Sixteen days later, the professor returned. As it turned out, parallel universes are, indeed, parallel—carbon copies of our own world, right down to the absent Elkins-copies, each looking elsewhere for something better that could not be found.

  1. LOL!! Great post.

  2. Oooh this is awesome. It reminded me of what the main character from Midnight in Paris found when he went back in time. He thought he was living in the wrong time and that the golden age was in 1920′s, but from speaking to people in the 20′s, he found that everyone in that time thought the time before theirs was the golden age and so on.

I really like your idea. It brings you to another place, yet it still knocks you back to reality. It makes you think about enjoying what you have and living in the here and now. You don’t always have to chase for something “bigger and better” when what you already have is amazing. :)

However, I’ll always stand my ground in believing there IS a magical world somewhere… :P

    • was in the 1920′s*

Apologies for any further typos I may have missed. I need my morning coffee.

      • Haha, I would never hold typos against you; not when you’ve gone to the effort to not only comment, but to write something substantial and thought-provoking!
:) Thanks for the kind words Lizzie; your comments always make me smile!

  3. I love your take on the prompt and how every parallel world is almost the same. Very cleverly done! Loved it. :-)

  4. I really enjoyed this take on the prompt. It’s a great play on the ‘grass is always greener’ concept! Thank you so much for sharing!

  5. Poor professor, now he has to make do in this world, no matter what! Why do I get the feeling he won’t be able to do so anyway?
